1. What is the local impact your organization has achieved regarding your selected SDG? (No Word Limit)

Green Cross United Kingdom (G+UK) serves as the British chapter of Green Cross International, a global non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1993. It is a strategic geopolitical organisation that was established in 1993, building upon the groundwork laid during the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Green Cross is an NGO that provides answers to the combined challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation. Addressing sustainability holistically, providing sustainable solutions through various programs and initiatives. Working on a case-by-case basis and implementing projects designed to generate a concrete and measurable positive impact where it operates. G+UK shares the overarching mission of Green Cross International, which is to address interconnected challenges of security, poverty, and environmental degradation. The goal is to foster a sustainable and secure future for communities worldwide. As a national chapter, G+UK creates its own Programmes and Initiatives to address specific socio-environmental issues prevalent in the UK, while also supporting international efforts where needed, particularly in Commonwealth countries without a local Green Cross presence. G+UK has established as her DNA, the Climate Positive Principle. The Climate Positive Principle takes the validity of the Earth Charter, as a basis and inspiration to formulate, solve, develop and execute a perspective through which addressing holistically the pillars of Sustainable Development following these axioms: i) Make the natural world the role model, ii) Make the common good a generous virtue, and iii) Make an equitable distribution of the value. G+UK`s approach to Climate Action Green Cross UK responds to Global Change primarily through solutions aimed at achieving sustainability in critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture and mining. Climate Change is one of the challenges presented by Global Change, as well as Pollution, Habitat reduction, and Overuse. Green Cross UK conceptualizes sustainability as a complex system and addresses it through a comprehensive multidimensional model (hypercube of sustainability). This model allows for a holistic understanding of the diverse needs and actors involved in sustainability, considering the specificities of each case. It also requires a personalized approach, as there is no single correct path to sustainability. Local Impact Achievements: o G+UK`s Programmes and Initiatives Green Cross UK has developed its own Programmes, where it considers Climate Action as a milestone to achieve Sustainability. Each of the programmes has an assessment to determine its impact on sustainability, to then develop a tailor-made Roadmap to achieve sustainability and positive impact. Climate Action has specific Category in the Framework called Risk and Resilience and Subcategories: Emissions and Resilience, with 5 levels of achievement beyond Best Practices to achieve Restorative effects. The programmes are: • CPSI Climate Positive Sustainable Infrastructure: Promotion, Implementation, Support, and Verification of Sustainable Infrastructure (end-to-end). Green Finance. • CPRA Climate Positive Regenerative Agriculture: Promotion, Implementation, Support, and Verification Regenerative Agriculture Practices (end-to-end). Green Finance. • CPCM Climate Positive Climate Mining: Promotion, Implementation, Support, and Verification Positive Climate Mining; Natural Mining, Urban Mining and Mining under Social and Environmental license. • CPOO Climate Positive Oceanic Odyssey: Oceanic Odyssey’s mission to Peace Building and Sustainability Spread. These programmes are a long-term, coordinated set of related actions executed within one or more Projects, that are managed and implemented jointly to achieve common goals, accomplishing benefits, outcomes, and value for the Parties, the Communities, and the Environment. They can optionally include one or more Initiatives. An Initiative is a sum of integral and multidisciplinary actions to enhance, improve, or solve a specific issue, such as Circular Economy, Decarbonisation, Sustainable Behaviour, which is addressed through the execution of a Project with the objective of achieving benefits, outcomes, and value for the Parties, the Communities, and the Environment. P&I are developed by teams of experts from each field of Green Cross's wide network, including scientific and academic institutions, research and development centres, and public agencies. These teams work together to establish objective criteria and set measurable, achievable, relevant, specific, and time-bound requirements for sustainability, resilience, and the desired positive impact. • Ertha Initiative: Assist, promote, and support all sectors in addressing the impact of overuse and material pollution in an affordable, efficient, resilient, and responsible manner to achieve the circular economy in a high human development through customized solutions. • JU Initiative: Through customised solutions, assist, promote, and support all sectors in addressing their contribution to decarbonisation in an affordable, efficient, resilient, and responsible manner, aligned with the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. • G3S/Aneya: It promotes the development of a virtuous agricultural cycle based on a circular economy model and regenerative agriculture projects. By doing so, C+E not only generates a positive impact on the environment but also enriches the surrounding communities. For our organisation, we consider the next project to be critical, as it allows us to continue to effectively address socio-economic challenges.

2. What is the global impact your organization has achieved regarding your selected SDG? (No Word Limit)

Green Cross United Kingdom (G+UK), as the British chapter of Green Cross International, has developed Programs and initiatives that, while created to address local challenges, seek to achieve a global impact. This approach enables G+UK to adapt to the specific needs of each context, working case by case to ensure that each implementation is relevant and effective in its particular environment. G+UK supports international efforts where needed, particularly in Commonwealth countries without a local Green Cross presence. Even when there is the presence of other Green Crosses (more than 25 worldwide), we work together to achieve common goals. Climate Positive Framework: The Climate Positive Principle adopted by G+UK is not only applied in the UK but also serves as a model for other regions. This framework promotes holistic approaches to climate action, addressing sustainability in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and mining. Local Adaptation and Global Scalability: • G+UK's Programmes are designed to be adaptable, allowing for implementation in various regions worldwide. This ensures that solutions are pertinent to local conditions while aligning with broader sustainability goals. • G+UK Programmes are implemented in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Caribbean. International Collaborations: • G+UK collaborates with more than 60 organisations, governments, and NGOs globally, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and resources, thereby amplifying the impact of its initiatives beyond British borders. The programmes and initiatives of Green Cross United Kingdom, although created for the British context, have a global focus aimed at generating significant impact in climate action worldwide. By working case by case and adapting each project to local needs, G+UK effectively contributes to global efforts to achieve SDG 13, ensuring a more sustainable and resilient future for all. One of the most impactful case studies outside the UK is the Aneya initiative of the Regenerative Agriculture (CPRA) programme. We have developed a system that respects local traditions in grain cultivation, at a very low cost, which will be donated to the Indian government to facilitate its implementation internally. This project addresses the serious problem of annual grain loss, estimated at US$14 billion according to FAO, due to supply chain deficiencies and lack of storage infrastructure. We estimate that the positive impact of this initiative could enable 450 million people to be fed annually, and in 25 years more than 500 million carbon removal credits and another 350 million emission reduction credits will be generated.

5. What challenges did you encounter while working for your selected SDG, and how did you address them? (150 Words Limit)

One significant challenge G+UK faces in advancing SDG 13—and all 17 SDGs—is the inertia of existing economic and political systems, which are built around unlimited growth and often conflict with planetary boundaries. Additionally, there is a collective inability to recognize the urgency and severity of the negative impacts we have generated as a species. A key lesson learned is that sustainability is a complex system requiring an interdisciplinary, holistic, and multidimensional approach. To address this, it is essential to assemble teams of professionals who share values, principles, and a commitment to the common good. We have realized that even amidst this complexity, simple, common-sense solutions can emerge when focused on collective well-being. By fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders and prioritizing ethical practices, we can navigate these barriers and make meaningful progress toward climate action and sustainability.

6. How did you engage local communities and stakeholders in your work, and what was their feedback? (150 Words Limit)

G+UK actively engage local communities and stakeholders by offering technological assistance, risk governance, innovation, mediation, and educational arbitration. Our multidisciplinary teams are tailored to meet specific community needs, ensuring we remain aligned with our mandate while upholding our neutrality and independence. We cultivate local working groups centered on sustainability, empowering communities to become proactive change agents. By enhancing understanding of Green Cross's role and providing platforms for participation, we foster more effective sustainability efforts. This collaborative approach not only enriches our initiatives with valuable community perspectives but also strengthens our overall impact. Feedback from these engagements has highlighted the importance of inclusivity, with community members expressing appreciation for the opportunity to voice their needs and collaborate on projects. This ongoing dialogue ensures our actions remain relevant and effective in driving meaningful change.

7. Which organizational skills and resources did you use to deliver goods/services without harming the environment or society? (150 Words Limit)

At G+UK, we have developed a methodology called "Adding Sustainable Value" (ASV), which allows us to define and measure the sustainable value generated through our interactions with various stakeholders in the public, private, and civil sectors.. If we cannot add sustainable value to a project, we do not engage. Also, each project at G+UK is implemented within the framework of one of our programmes, which utilizes a comprehensive structure encompassing 73 sustainability criteria. This holistic approach ensures that we address all potential impacts rather than evaluating them in isolation. Often, when seeking to advance a specific area of sustainability, secondary impacts can arise. Therefore, it is crucial to approach each project integrally, considering the interconnectedness of various sustainability factors. By employing this framework, we can effectively manage and mitigate unintended consequences, ensuring that our initiatives deliver positive outcomes across multiple dimensions of sustainability.

8. In your view what roles do businesses, governments, and civil society should play in achieving the SDGs, and how can they collaborate effectively? (150 Words Limit)

Achieving the SDGs requires a collaborative effort from businesses, governments, and civil society, each playing distinct yet complementary roles. Effective collaboration involves transparent communication, shared goals, and joint initiatives. By fostering partnerships that leverage each sector’s strengths, we can create comprehensive strategies that address the complex challenges of the SDGs, ultimately driving meaningful and lasting change. As an NGO, we are here to support all sectors and provide the necessary assistance to foster collaboration and drive positive change. Our commitment is to facilitate partnerships among businesses, governments, and civil society, ensuring that each sector receives the guidance and resources needed to effectively contribute to sustainable development. By working together, we can create impactful solutions that address the challenges faced by our communities and the environment.

9. What advice do you have for individuals or organizations aiming to create positive change and support the SDGs? (150 Words Limit)

"I used to think the top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that with 30 years of good science we could address these problems, but I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selifshness, greed and apathy, and to deal with those we need a spiritual and cultural transformation. And we scientists don’t know how to do that." James Gustave (Gus) Speth. It is essential to cultivate a deep conviction that we must act for the benefit of all—our planet and future generations. We are all inhabitants of this Earth, and we must take responsibility for its stewardship. Only by uniting, transcending individual interests, and assuming shared responsibility can we initiate the necessary transformations for a secure and sustainable future. This is a monumental challenge but also a unique opportunity to demonstrate our capacity as a species to protect and preserve our planet.

10. How would winning this SDG Award help you enhance your impact and expand your project? (150 Words Limit)
